Folklore Coffee & Co.: Musings from Hershey

    July 23, 2014 / No Comments

Ah, Pennsylvania, USA, the lovely location for chocolate, happiness and sunshine. It’s not just the dairy state, people, it has “Chocolate Town,” USA! I was in Chocolate Town a few weeks back for business, and knew immediately that there would be some amazing desserts to try. Not just desserts, but the chocolate specifically, and also the coffee. With big cows moo-ing all around the PA pastures, I figured the cafe-au-lait would be a delicious choice; PA is known for its milk.  I love my coffee with milk, as you can tell from past reviews. Rare…

Blue Crab Coffee Co: Great Coffee, Great Town

    June 26, 2014 / No Comments

St. Michael’s, Maryland, is one of those awesome and special places that feels sort of frozen in time. It’s preppy, in the best way, a-la a scene from Wedding Crashers, and is the quintessential boater town. I’ve been going to St. Michael’s ever since I was little, but never spotted Blue Crab Coffee Co. on one of the many adorable side streets. Blue Crab Coffee feels like a beach-y place right down to the details. The shop sits proudly, almost alone, on a little back street.  You can see…

Big Bear Cafe: The Place to Be Seen

    May 23, 2014 / No Comments

When I walked into Big Bear Cafe this past weekend, I had high expectations; my good friend used to work there and raved about it frequently. I found a parking spot on the immediate-most side street which put a huge smile on my face, and enjoyed the farmers market on the other street facing the cafe. It was a gorgeous sunny day, and lots of hustle and bustle surrounded Big Bear… There’s an outdoor patio with lots of nice wooden tables, and a large interior with high ceilings.…

CLOSED: Chinatown Coffee Co: The Place for Alternative Fans

    May 4, 2014 / No Comments

This morning, I journeyed down to Chinatown with every intention of going to Vigilante Coffee’s pop-up cafe.  Once I arrived on the scene, it wasn’t there. Anyone else know why Hogo’s is boarded up? Luckily, there was a close second for coffee shop choices in the area: Chinatown Coffee Co. After a short walk from the Chinatown metro, I arrived to the entrance. After walking right into the open doorway, I noticed the interior: garage-like. Chinatown Coffee Co. has a brick wall interior, and a slick…floor that almost feels…

Peet’s Coffee & Tea: Grand Opening on 17th Street

    April 21, 2014 / No Comments

This morning marks the grand opening of Peet’s Coffee & Tea on 17th Street, downtown Washington, DC.  I’ve been excited about this addition to the city ever since I saw its sign go up on the corner.  Peet’s is locally described as the “West Coast Starbucks.”  Given that Starbucks also started on the West Coast, I think people mean Peet’s was formerly a West Coast chain while Starbucks dominated the East Coast — that is, until now. Well, I think Starbucks has some competition!  I tried a vanilla latte this…
