Curate a Winter Drinks (Coffee/Cocoa) Aesthetic [At Home]
There are a few days left in December before Christmas, and we’ve been decorating our cozy apartment in DC despite still waiting for some snow to fall. Our article, Create a Coffee Shop Aesthetic [At Home] is currently our most viewed article on the site, so we thought we might try riffing off of it for the holiday season.
Take to Pinterest to organize your holiday ideas
We’ve gathered lots of pins in our winter coffee/cocoa Pinterest board. Why not “pin” your favorite holiday pictures on your own Pinterest, or, clip some photos from magazines into a holiday collage, aka the old-school original form of Pinterest, and hang it up in your home? This exercise will help gather your ideas and show you what emotions and scenes you’re hoping to evoke and share this holiday season.
Make a fire in the fireplace
Do you have a fireplace in your home? There’s nothing like snuggling up next to the fire during the cold winter months. No fireplace? Light some candles. Or light the string lights on your Christmas tree. Try to reduce the bright lights in your home and focus on candlelit, more soft lights. We also love the fireplace music videos on YouTube. No snow? No worries. One idea to set the snowy, fireplace ambiance can be found below.
Put on your coziest clothing
Whether it’s pajama’s, wool socks, slippers, or simply a cozy blanket, staying cozy this winter will certainly add to your holiday cheer. We like cozy home options from Made Trade.

Make hot chocolate/cocoa with marshmallows or whipped cream
Almost every Christmas growing up included going to a classic chocolate shop nestled in a quaint city suburb in the Northeast. In that family-owned chocolaterie, we enjoyed a homemade milk chocolate hot cocoa, with freshly made whipped cream spooned on top. Sitting on a diner bar stool, wrapped in a scarf and mittens, every year the family experience was more special — the cocoa was so decadent and sweet, a pure mug of love. The memory still brings back the smell of melting chocolate and a rush of happiness. This year, make your favorite hot cocoa using your favorite cocoa powder or pure chocolate at home, and be sure to share it with your loved ones in your house, and/or together on a video conference, and make new memories.
Take a virtual vacation this winter, like snowy train ride through Finland
None of us are able to travel right now, so we’ve taken to reading travel magazines, watching holiday movies set in foreign countries, and also again, taking to YouTube to feed the wanderlust. Eager for a Christmas coffee shop trip? Simply search for “Christmas” or “Holiday Music” x “Coffee Shop” or whatever your travel wish is. Maybe you’ll discover a new destination to fly to in 2021! Enjoy!
Brew a special coffee recipe for your holiday morning breakfast
Whether its a special espresso from your favorite coffee-land, or a recipe for a gingerbread latte, be sure to make Christmas morning, or another holiday morning, extra special during this pandemic. Stay safe and take care. Happy holidays! 🙂
